Dr Richard Curran completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney and went on to complete advanced surgical training on the NSW Western rotation, where he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2008.
He is an experienced General and Laparoscopic Surgeon with a strong clinical focus on gallstone disease, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy for both emergency and elective patients. Dr Curran has built a large and well-established practice in this area, alongside managing a broad range of general surgical conditions.
Dr Curran currently holds public hospital appointments as a Consultant General Surgeon at Westmead Hospital and Blacktown & Mt Druitt Hospitals, where his work centres on laparoscopic general surgery and evidence-based surgical care. In addition to his public roles, he operates privately at Westmead Private Hospital and Norwest Private Hospital, and also consults at Delmar Private Hospital in Dee Why.
His broad surgical background allows him to tailor care to individual patient needs, with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques where appropriate. His approach is grounded in careful assessment, clear communication, and ensuring patients feel informed and supported throughout their surgical journey.
Dr Curran now also consults locally at South Steyne Medical Centre in Manly, providing patients with convenient access to specialist surgical care within a familiar general practice environment, supported by integrated GP services.
Outside of the operating theatre, Dr Curran is an enthusiastic cyclist and enjoys spending time on two wheels whenever his schedule allows – you may even spot him riding around North Head.
